I thrive to attain the viewer’s attention - if one picks up the vessel and can make a personal connection to the object through its use or visual stimulation, I have found success. The repetitive nature of wheel throwing gives me pleasure and allows me to fabricate uniform vessels with voluptuous curves and clean lines. This process allows me to explore a myriad of forms and functions.
I believe the experience of an object should be considered a function of the object: what is unknown about the piece may only be perceived through its use. This surprise through investigation continues to fuel my work and appreciation for the medium. I find comfort in filling a table with well made pottery and at the end of the day filling these vessels with a family feast.
